What is Your WHY?

Since moving to the farm in 2017, I’ve tried to be more mindful of where I put my time and resources. After all, there are only so many hours in a day, right?

This means stepping back and making intentional decisions on what to prioritize, what to do more efficiently and what to cut out altogether. Seriously, what things are most important to you? Family time? Cooking? Reading? Learning?

Some days I do this much better then others. Some days just pass by in a haze and I wonder what I’m doing on this round-about, doing the same things over and over with little thought about WHY I’m doing all the things. That’s depressing.

The WHY is what keeps the fire burning on the hard days. The days when you can only get the bare minimums done. I have plenty of those days.

Most of us are just going through the daily motions, checking off boxes without much living and really experiencing the moment. It’s this time of year when I realize how many sights, sounds, snuggles and laughs I’ve missed.

If we take a close look at how we’re spending time, we can find a lot of wasted minutes. Note to self: stop scrolling facebook! And then use those minutes to do something that matters. Something that fills your heart and soul. Stamp those moments into memory so you can revisit them for later enjoyment.

Now to be clear, I’m not talking about scheduled rest and personal time as wasted time. I believe that we all need time in our day to decompress and do things other than work, parent or take care of others. We NEED personal time and we DESERVE it!

I’m talking about finding ways to do things that save you a few minutes each day. Or maybe saying no and totally cutting out those things that don’t serve you or your goals.

Darrin and I are in talks about what worked well on the farm this year and what didn’t go as we had planned. These discussions are going to help us redefine what our priorities will be for 2023 and it’s caused me to rethink how I use some of my precious time.

I find it so fulfilling to jot down some things that I’m grateful for and then sit in the thought for a few minutes. Really appreciate the thing until my heart feels it.

Time is ticking by. Whether or not you live it intentionally is up to you.

So, my friends, I would love to know what changes and improvements you’re planning for your life.

What little thing can you do to bring more meaning to your day?

What is your WHY?
