Should You Raise Your Own Chickens?
With the price of eggs and groceries going up, lots of folks are looking at raising their own chickens for the first time. I love it.
However, there are some things to consider before you dive in.
What is Your WHY?
Since moving to the farm in 2017, I’ve tried to be more mindful of where I put my time and resources. After all, there are only so many hours in a day, right?

This Was a Hard Day…
Anyone with animals knows both the joy and the heartbreak that comes with our beloved pets. And when you live on a farm with a hundred animals, the ups and downs are even more frequent.
What can you do with egg shells?
We try not to waste anything here on the farm. There’s usually a use for just about every morsel and scrap. Including egg shells.
Have you ever tried to Spatchcock a chicken?
When you spatchcock a chicken, it’s similar to “butterflying” or flattening out the bird so that it cooks more evenly. This is a great way to make sure the darker meat gets done, while not over cooking the tender white meat.
2022 Here We Come!
Our project list on the farm is always a mile long. It’s a bit different than our project list when we lived in a subdivision with only cats and dogs. Now the list consists of fencing, haying, building structures, fixing tractors and hatching chicks.
